Bauer Media To Acquire Leading Pan-Nordic Broadcaster SBS Discovery Radio

Nordic: Bauer Media is to acquire leading Nordic broadcaster SBS Discovery Radio from Discovery Communications, subject to regulatory approval. – SBS Discovery radio has great brands, says Bauer Media UK CEO, Paul Keenan, who has led the acquisition.

Reaching more than 10 million people weekly through 20 popular brands, SBS Discovery Radio is the leading commercial radio operator in Sweden and Denmark and strongly positioned in Norway and Finland. The group operates some of the region’s most popular brands including: Sweden’s Mix Megapol, Norway’s Radio Norge, Denmark’s Nova and Finland’s Iskelma – all of which have extremely talented management and presentation teams.

The acquisition has been led by the Bauer Media UK, CEO Paul Keenan, who commented: “SBS Discovery radio has great brands, outstanding talent and is well positioned for growth in countries which love radio. SBS Discovery Radio in Sweden expanded its leading Mix Megapol brand through a market changing collaboration with NRJ and reaches 4.7m people each week. In Denmark, SBS’s Radio Nova is a market leading commercial brand reaching 2.1m people.

In Norway, SBS’s Radio Norge is well positioned for growth with a weekly reach of 1.9m, and in addition, the country is anticipated to be the first territory in the world to conduct a DAB digital switch-over.

In Finland, SBS Discovery Radio reaches 1.6m listeners each week through leading brands such as The Voice and Iskelma and has a market leading online position.

Across the Nordic region SBS Discovery radio reaches more than 4.0m unique users through its digital platforms and online radio players.

In Europe, Bauer Media is one of the leading commercial radio operators. In the UK, Bauer has more than 60 radio stations, including national radio brands Kiss, Magic and Absolute Radio and local brands comprising the Bauer City Network and is the UK’s market leader in digital listening.
