UK: The identity of the British street art legend Banksy might’ve been revealed. Banksy is known globally for his (or hers?) grafitti art, but equally known for being anonymous. Although… that might now have changed. Goldie seems to have dropped a name in an interview with the podcast Distraction.

Robert del Naja – vocalist and member of Massive Attack – has been mentioned as a possible candidate behind the pseudonym. Goldie and del Naja have been friends for year and they even used to spraying grafitti on walls in England in the eighties.

In his interview with podcast Distraction Goldie was talking about Banksy saying:

– For something like graffiti, which has inspired the world with font or anything to do with anyone wearing a baseball cap and fucking sneakers, at its centre it is still misunderstood. But give me a bubble letter and put it on a t-shirt and write ‘Banksy’ on it and we’re sorted… We can sell it now.

Goldie then added:

– No disrespect to [Rob/Robert], I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over.

Goldie has not confirmed who Rob is – it could also be Robin Gunningham. Or, of course, someone completely different.

And if you ever wanted to know how to promote your podcast and have a bit of it go viral – inviting Goldie to talk about Banksy seems to us be a pretty good move.

You will be able to hear the moment about 34 minutes into the audio – published on acast.
