More than 6 out of 10 British adults listen to podcasts regularly

UK: Spotify has released figures showing that more than 6 out of 10 British adults listen to podcasts regularly, over 2 in 10 listens weekly. Half of those polled say they listen for entertainment and 1 in 10 to “to distract themselves from work or exercise”.



Spotify research reinforces figures published earlier by Ofcom saying that Brits listen to podcasts more often. Over 6 in 10 British adults, 61 per cent, now listen to podcasts regularly as much 21 per cent do so on a weekly basis.

Podcasting is a recent phenomenon, confirmed by almost 7 in 10 saying they were more likely to listen to a podcast now than only three years ago.

– Podcasts are rapidly increasing in popularity, both with our users, and as a growing category as a whole, says Spotify’s Head of Podcasts, EMEA, James Cator.

In terms of what is popular; comedy/entertainment are listened to by 49% of those surveyed. 25% listen to music-based podcasts while 18% listen to crime podcasts.
