RADIO NORGE LAUNCH Norway: Listeners logging on to the new national broadcaster Radio Norge’s website could hear Europe’s eighties hit “The Final Countdown” before the station launched at midday CET Monday. Av Gine Juel Lundgren Thursday 21.04.08, 14:19 Monday saw the launch of Norway’s new national radio station Radio Norge. The new station is born out of the failed Kanal 24, recently bought by the ProSiebenSat.1 owned company SBS Radio from national TV-broadcaster TV2. The new station, that, unlike it’s predecessor, complies with all license requirements from the Norwegian authorities, will be focused on delivering a very strict music format and more news. ![]() Boards seen in Oslo Monday morning. (Photo: RadioAssistant.com) - It’s delightful to finally unveil Kanal 24’s new incarnation, Radio Norge. In the process of developing a new format for the station we have taken our cues from the research “Norge Bestemmer”, “Norway Decides”, where over 6000 people told us what they wanted on their radio. In addition we have looked at other available research data and analysis, and combined it with our vast experience in commercial radio, says SBS Radio Norge CEO Miss Bente Klemetsdal. News every 30 minutes As the only national radio station in Norway, Radio Norge will broadcast updated news bulletins every 30 minutes from 6 am to 7pm. - News is too important to wait for. The answers we got from the “Norge Bestemmer” research shows that a majority of listeners wants shorter and more frequent news bulletins throughout the day. We will be doing just that, says radio director Mr. Kristoffer Vangen. In addition to it’s own news desk headed by news editor Arne Sandvik, Radio Norge has a supplier agreement in place with both TV 2 and TV Norge in Norway and ProSiebenSat.1 internationally. Radio Norge will try to accommodate a wide demographic with their music policy. ![]() ariation is the most important feedback we got from the listeners on our music. Finally Norway will have a radio station constructed around their specific wishes, with a focus on the music from the last four decades. We have come up with our own mix of music with seventies stars like Cat Stevens and Queen, artists such as Supertramp, Pink Floyd and REM from the eighties and nineties and we have mixed it with the best of today. Here the listeners will have a good mix of all their favourite songs, says Vangen. Management and staff at the new radio station now look forward to presenting themselves to the people. - For us at Radio Norge this feels more like a new launch rather than a re-launch, even though several of the best presenters from Kanal 24 continues on. We don’t view this a re-launch of old material, but rather a brand new product launch. Our most important job going forward is to build a credible and valued brand, and at the same time adhering to the requirements in our license, says Klemetsdal. (Press Release) |
