Sweden: Sveriges Radio (Swedish public radio) has developed a world first; a podcast for babies and toddlers under 2. In ten episodes Bebispodden (literally “The Baby Podcast”) will deal with things and concepts in babies lives.

– This is a world first, it is fun and it is brave, says Linda Belanner, head of Barnradion – Swedish Radio’s children’s department.

She says the podcast is full of the first words, like ma-ma and da-da, sounds and music.

Bebispodden is created by actress and musician Micaela Gustafsson. She has created music for children for years, and got the idea after parents said young children responded well.

– I started wondering what made babies respond. I wanted to try something that was based on sound to get them engaged and interested, says Gustafsson.

The podcast has been developed with babies and their parents. It has also been tested on bigger groups of toddlers. Michaela Gustafsson hope parents will listen together with their children and even participate in making sounds, play and jump around.

Linda Belanner believe the podcast can be used by nurseries and pre-schools too, and is certain the podcast will be a success.
